The Snowwater Difference

Here's a glance at our special niche...

WE BELIEVE YOU ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE LEGENDS THAT DEFINE YOU, AND THAT THIS IS THE PLACE TO START BUILDING THEM.

  • Providing a safe and highly enjoyable skiing and boarding vacation is our highest priority. We have the CAA industry leaders audit our standards annually to ensure we meet all requirements for our industry. Our guests now have the option to wear the new BCA airbag, which has proven to significantly reduce the chances of being buried in an avalanche. Each guest is also given a backpack with a personal avalanche probe and shovel, and each group carries a guest radio, enabling immediate communication with our office dispatch at all times while in the field.
  • Only three groups of four share our B2 A-star helicopter and 150,000 acres of remarkable terrain.
  • We don’t farm snow. We ski untracked powder. Period. We operate in three separate mountain ranges and have never run out of fresh snow yet. Remember, only 3 groups of 4 guests a day means volumes of light, Kootenay powder, just for you.
  • Snowcat backup means you ski every day, all day - guaranteed. Unlike other operations now offering snowcat backup - we were a snowcat skiing operation first - so the quality of our backup terrain is superb.
  • Our remote lodge is ’mountain chic’ and includes every creature comfort, including high speed internet and cell phone access.
  • We are 80% repeat business - a number that clearly defines how our clients feel about where they want to spend hard earned coin.
  • Our all-inclusive, unlimited vertical package is bar none the best priced package being offered in the industry. We challenge you to find better for the same quality.
  • We are committed to sustainability and reducing our footprint to help preserve the very nature that makes our wilderness experience one of the best in the world.
  • Carbon Credits? We collect them! Our other business is in forestry where we have collected millions of seedlings every year for the past 20 years. These go towards replanting the forests of BC in the summer, while in the winter we help people appreciate the importance of preserving our spectacular backcountry terrain, and enjoying nature in its pristine form.
  • We are easy to get to. Fly directly into Castlegar (YGR), or fly to Spokane, Wa - a three hour drive away.
  • We strive to redefine efficient service with an effortless style and fun-loving attitude.
  • Every group gets a fireworks show at the end of their trip!

WE STRIVE TO REDEFINE EFFICIENT SERVICE WITH AN EFFORTLESS STYLE AND FUN-LOVING ATTITUDE.

Service Obsession

We emphasize attentive yet unobtrusive service in order to provide you with a superior personalized experience.  Being a small, intimate lodge, we are able to offer authentic hospitality, and we strive to make people feel completely at home with us.

The team at Snowwater is our most valuable resource.  We choose our staff carefully and take great pride in the people who work with us to help perpetuate the Snowwater dream.  Our staff-to-guest ratio is virtually one to one, allowing us to provide a level of service that is unmatched in the ski industry.  We hire only friendly and accomplished individuals who share a passion for deep powder skiing and living well.

Our guides and pilots are the best in the business.  Seasoned, knowledgeable professionals, they ensure an atmosphere that is both safe and efficient, yet relaxed and informal.  Day after day of fresh deep powder usually leads to sore muscles.  Our massage therapists provide a range of therapeutic techniques guaranteed to soothe and renew.   Hot stone massage, reflexology and deep tissue massage are a few of the options available.  But that’s not all!  Our masterful barmen are innovative and skillful, offering delicious drinks such as the strawberry basil martini, or the bacon-laden Caesar.  Unique evening events can include celebratory shooters at the ice bar, or an evening mine tour in the snowcat.

Together, we aim to produce a holiday experience that is as exclusive as it is personalized. We endeavour to both challenge you and to help you fulfill your deepest powder fantasies.

WE HAVE NO DOWN DAYS AT SNOWWATER. EVER. WE OFFER RELIABLE SNOWCAT BACKUP GUARANTEE FOR ALL OUR GUESTS.

WE GUARANTEE IT

Since its inception, the heli ski industry has been plagued by the elusive ‘bad weather day’ – meaning the helicopter can’t fly so clients are grounded for yet another day of a long-awaited powder vacation. At Snowwater, we offer a reliable snowcat backup guarantee for all twelve of our guests ensuring each person skis or rides every single day.

If we are unable to fly, our Ipod-equipped snowcat is always standing by to show the group to quality steep and deep.

With over ten years of snowcat skiing under our belt, the caliber of our backup tree skiing is second to none. Annual glading and road system development have now afforded us access to signature old growth tree skiing and open bowls right from our doorstep. If the weather changes while we’re in the cat, we can easily have the heli meet us in the field, or we simply ski right to lodge and head out for some epic heli turns.

It’s our failsafe way to ensure you spend your well-deserved vacation time doing what you came to do.

MEET THE OWNERS

Snowwater Heli Skiing is owned and operated by the husband and wife team, Patric Maloney and Maria Grant.
The pair manages the business with a fervent gusto akin only to those truly obsessed with powder skiing, mountain living, and the constant desire to have fun. Their goal has always been to live an active, healthy lifestyle while being continually challenged and inspired. Having the lodge allows them to meet extraordinary people from around the world who share similar philosophies in life.

It was Patric who initially conceived of and designed the concept of Snowwater.  Having played in the mountains since he was fifteen, ‘bagging any peak’ he could find, he spent all his time in time outdoors, eventually becoming a forester and arborist. He bought the lodge property in 1993, built the main timber frame structure in 1994, and began offering snowmobile ski touring trips soon after that. Thus, Snowwater was born.

Maria seemed destined to join him on his ambitious path. An ardent powder fiend with a feisty attitude, she joined the mission early on and was soon helping to create this mountain paradise aimed at pleasing the most discerning powder enthusiast.

Keen travelers, Patric and Maria constantly pursue adventure of all kinds, searching for unique ideas to add to the diversity of the lodge.  Summer programs are soon to include horseback riding, yoga retreats, fly fishing and hiking.  As passionate ‘foodies’, it is their ever-vigilant quest to promote international flavours at Snowwater, and to indulge in fine wine.

Each year they continually refine the services and amenities of the company to remain at the forefront of the heli-skiing experience in British Columbia.  Underlying everything is a commitment to providing exceptional service, excellent employee training, and a family style atmosphere where all are made to feel welcome.

MEET THE OWNERS

THERE IS ANOTHER PERSON WHO HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND VERY SURVIVAL OF SNOWWATER.

Meet the man behind the scenes, our partner, Chris Beresford. Although not present in the day-to-day operations, Chris works closely with Patric and Maria to develop Snowwater into a premier destination resort. He shares our passion for nature and backcountry skiing and spends a good deal of time skiing with us in the winter. He looks forward to meeting all of you. Continually upgrading his own skills you may see him skiing in your group!
